Angela Scanlon was left relieved after surviving another week on Strictly Come Dancing – despite Craig Revel Horwood’s harsh criticism.

He blasted her waltz with dance partner Carlos Gu to With You I’m Born Again by Billy Preston featuring Syreeta Wright. But the Ask Me Anything host dodged the bottom two, with Angela Rippon facing the judges for a second time and newsreader Krishnan Guru-Murthy. The judges ultimately sent Krishnan home.

Angela, 39, from Ratoath, Co Meath, told her Instagram followers: “We have worked so hard on the waltz. It was the one I was most terrified about.

“It is the slowest dance which requires so much control and that is something up until now I have not been in possession of. However, we pulled it off and it was magic. We had such a lovely time dancing it.”

But the night started off rocky for the mother-of-two after judge Craig said: “Yes, it had all those beautiful things, grace, style, story, but there were gaps everywhere between you.”

Judge Motsi Mabuse said: “No, I don’t agree with you, Mr Craig Revel Horwood! Guys, I thought for me personally that this was your best dance since you started in this competition.”

Judge Shirley Ballas added: “I don’t feel like we were looking at the same performance, Craig.” She praised Angela for having “some of the best footwork I’ve seen in the waltz”.
