If you love your fish and chips, Kingfisher on Parnell Street is one of the best eateries in town.

With their scrumptious fish burgers and their mindblowing fish and chips, their food is memorable on the taste buds. We recently went there and the place was full - families meeting up with babies on highchairs next to them, friends talking over cold lager under the warm autumn sun, people on dates.

Kingfisher is a bit inconspicuous, located on the corner between Parnell Street and Parnell Square West in Dublin city centre. But after a movie day at Cineworld and an obligatory trip to Chapters, it was the tantalising smell of a well-cooked seafood meal that stopped us on our tracks and had us looking around until we found the source.

We got a Moretti, the Fillet O Fish Burger with the catch of the day and the restaurant's very popular fish and chips. The fish was superb and full of flavour and the homemade chips were the stuff of childhood memories. Many fish and chip meals are a bit on the bland and flavourless side but Kingfisher was not one of them.

We saw many fellow customers sharing the restaurant’s King Prawn Cocktail and seafood platters so we assume they’re quite good as well considering their popularity. There were other eye-catching things on the menu as well which unfortunately we could not try (now here’s a reason to go there again).

The restaurant also offers fisherman's pie and beef lasagna, seafood chowder, salads and sandwiches, including Peri Peri chicken Ceaser salad, seafood cobb salad and open prawn sandwich. Their desserts meanwhile looked absolutely decadent, especially the dark chocolate brownie. Their coffees are also quite good, the perfect way to end the meal the Italian way.

Kingfisher’s only con is that it doesn’t do deliveries but fortunately, takeaways are an option. Price-wise, it’s not too expensive; both the fish and chips and the fish burger were €18 each but the portions were quite big and filling. Their takeaway prices are decent too, with fish and chips costing around €11.

The restaurant also does breakfasts and what they have on offer is mouth-watering. Other than regular breakfasts like full Irish, avocado on toast and porridge with a fresh fruit bowl, they also do Farmer’s Plate (scrambled eggs, juicy bacon, Kelly’s black pudding, rosemary diced potatoes, sweet tomato relish and homemade brown soda bread), Irish smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, and bacon butty.
