Pubs in Howth can be pretty amazing - scenic views, good pints and a great atmosphere - so this week we are highlighting The Abbey Tavern.

The world famous pub is at a location dating back to the 16th century. It has a great track record of fantastic live music and entertainment events, with a calendar posted on both their official website and social media.

Many famous people have visited the pub, including Pierce Brosnan, Princess Grace and Prince Rainier of Monaco, Garth Brooks, Katherine Hepburn and John Wayne. Meanwhile the Abbey Tavern stage has seen many famous performers including The Dubliners when they were starting out, The Chieftains and Christy Moore.

The venue, which is famous for its cut stone walls, flag stone floors and blazing turf fires, also screens sporting events for all the rugby, golf, soccer, GAA, and whatever other fans there are in the area.

Other than your favourite pub grub, local seafood and grill, they also have burgers, and the classics - Corned Beef and Cabbage, Beef and Guinness Pie. Meanwhile their desserts include tempting offers like Eton Mess (fresh strawberries, crushed meringue and cream), Almond Chocolate Cake and Chocolate and Fudge Berry Sundae.

There’s also a selection of wines, beer, cider, whiskey and other spirits. More importantly, they have vegan, vegetarian and gluten intolerant options, as well as Christmas Party Nights Menu and a Three Course Traditional Irish Show Menu.

Desserts are €7.30 and the main meals are between €18 and €40 so while prices are a bit on the expensive side, the pub would definitely be worth visiting on pay day.
