Boil vinegar and lemon/ lime

A fast, easy, and natural way to remove cooking odours in the home is to boil sliced lemons with a cup of vinegar and let it simmer. The acetic acid in the vinegar will help to neutralise odours and will leave the kitchen smelling lemon fresh.

Simmer cinnamon on the stove

This hack is great for Christmas lovers as the cinnamon scent is heavily associated with the festive season. Simply simmer cinnamon on the stove with boiling water and let the sweet scent waft through the home.

Make a cup of coffee

Coffee contains nitrogen, which neutralises odours. Brewing a fresh pot or placing coffee grounds in bowls around the kitchen can help absorb cooking smells and act as a natural freshener.

If the smell is bad, let it sit for a day and change it for fresh coffee until the bad smell has gone.

Wipe down commonly missed areas

Clean down frequently missed areas in the kitchen. Spots where the broom doesn't quite fit or where a wipe doesn't reach are perfect breeding grounds for food remnants to rot and foul smells to start, so ensure a proper cleaning after cooking.

Turn on the fan while frying/cooking

A kitchen fan will help to remove moisture, odours and oils that originate with cooking which will eliminate unpleasant smells. Leave it on for an additional 15 to 30 minutes to help clear out any additional smoke, grease, and smells that weren’t captured when cooking.
